Financial Education and Employment Supports
ARC relies on a network of community partners to help parents and caregivers to create a plan for self sufficiency and financial freedom through employment readiness supports, job fairs, credit counseling, access to credit reports along with help with TANF, local and state subsidized benefits.
Housing Education and Supports
Securing and maintaining adequate housing is a stressful struggle and is the most often cited reason for attending ARC. To help parents make progress in securing housing suitable for reunification to occur, ARC works to;
- Ensure that parents and caregivers are aware of available housing programs and understand the eligibility requirements for each program;
- Support parents to identify safe, affordable housing through workshops, special events and individual counseling sessions;
- Provide access to housing for parents experiencing homelessness and within six months of reunifying with their children.
Parenting Education and Skills
ARC focuses on helping parents and caregivers increase their sense of confidence as a parent, strengthen community with other parents and enhance their ability to manage parenting crisis.
All ARC parents are required to participate in the Parent Action Network Placement Parenting Group (PAN Placement Parenting Group). The focus of the PAN Placement Group is to empower parents with children in out of home placement to navigate the process of retaining child custody.
In addition, parents and caregivers have access to gender specific, education and skills group to further build parent capacity.
Coaching
ARC acknowledges that parents are knowledgeable, skilled, and resilient. Coaches at ARC work to establish a one-to-one relationship with the parents in a modern and welcoming environment. The relationship serves as the foundation for the parent and coach to create an individual plan together. The ARC Coach is trained to allow parents to lead the goal-setting process, refraining from advising them to choose a particular path. The coach also helps parents become skilled at locating and identifying resources at their CUA and in their own neighborhoods. The ARC Coaches follow a trauma-informed approach to maintain a positive working relationship where the parent feels safe and respected.
